GERMAN ROTTWEILERS

German Rottweilers
4-Month-Old Codak Vom Hardy

What is a German Rottweiler?

Well-bred Rottweilers are calm, confident, and courageous, but not unduly aggressive. They can also be playful, silly, and cuddly while still territorial.

Males stand between 24 to 27 muscular inches at the shoulder, and females are smaller and lighter.

Nutrition

Feed your dog high-quality food that is appropriate for their age level (puppy, adult, or senior). Some breeders also recommend raw diets, grain-free kibble, as well as additional meats, vegetables, or cottage cheese for puppies. Watching your dog’s calorie consumption and weight level can help prevent him or her from becoming overweight. Treats should only be given in moderation. Some human foods are safe for dogs and others aren’t, so it’s important to do your research. Talk to your vet if you have concerns about your dog’s weight or diet.
Grooming
Rottweilers have straight, coarse, medium-length outer coats, and an undercoat on their neck and thighs. This breed sheds very moderately for most of the year, so grooming is important. You should brush your dog’s coat, trim its nails, brush its teeth every week, and bathe him or her regularly.
Exercise
An active lifestyle keeps dogs fit and healthy. Rottweilers are muscular and athletic, so daily exercise is important. They love swimming, walking, and trotting, especially with people. They are very obedient animals, and excellent herders and trackers
Training
Socialization, basic training, and obedience should be taught at a young age. Rottweilers love being around people, and they are intelligent and highly trainable. They can be stubborn at times, so discipline must be consistent, fair, and firm. Avoid roughhousing with your dog as it may encourage aggression.
Health
Rottweiler breeders are required to test for health problems, including hip problems, eye diseases, and heart conditions before breeding. Cancer can be a concern for this breed. Following a careful vaccination regimen strengthens the immune system which can keep dogs healthier.
